How to Change Your DNS Name Server Print

Nameservers are the primary signposts of the internet. They tell the global domain registry exactly which server cluster or web host controls your website files, email routing, and security protocols.

When you buy a hosting package, launch a new landing page, or point your traffic to a custom security layout (like Cloudflare), you will need to update your domain's nameservers. Follow this step-by-step guide to update these records securely inside your Client Area.

Step 1: Locate Your Domain Management Portal

To modify the authoritative routing infrastructure of your domain asset, you must access its specific administrative panel:

  • Log in to your Client Area dashboard.
  • From the main menu navigation bar, click on Domains and select My Domains from the dropdown menu.
  • Locate the domain name you wish to modify from the list and click the **Manage** button (or the wrench icon) on the far right side of that row.

Step 2: Access the Nameservers Settings

Once inside the management portal for your specific domain name:

  • Look at the left-hand sidebar menu (or the main tab navigation across the top on mobile devices).
  • Click on the link labeled Nameservers.

Step 3: Update and Save Your New Nameservers

On the Nameservers configuration screen, you will be presented with two distinct routing strategies:

1. Use Default Nameservers

Select this radio option if you are hosting your website directly on our primary infrastructure networks. This will automatically pull our standard, optimized cluster records into your domain setup.

2. Use Custom Nameservers

Select this option if you are routing traffic through an external platform (such as custom enterprise clusters, dedicated firewalls, or a specific third-party CDN like Cloudflare).

If you choose **Custom Nameservers**, clear out any pre-existing text strings from the fields provided and input your new cluster endpoints exactly as provided by your technician or platform provider:

  • Nameserver 1: (e.g., ns1.yourprovider.com)
  • Nameserver 2: (e.g., ns2.yourprovider.com)

Note: While fields for Nameservers 3, 4, and 5 exist, most standard web configurations only require the primary two inputs. Leave any extra rows entirely blank.

Once you have verified that the text strings match perfectly without any trailing spaces, click the prominent blue Change Nameservers button at the bottom of the form.

Crucial Insight: Global DNS Propagation

Nameserver modifications are pushed to the global root registries instantly, but internet service providers (ISPs) worldwide cache old server records to maintain speed. Because of this, it can take anywhere from 1 to 24 hours for a nameserver change to fully propagate across the entire global grid. During this brief window, some users may see your old server layout while others hit the new live instance.

Unsure what your target nameserver records should be?

If your website layout has dropped offline or you are unsure how to correctly align your DNS variables, our infrastructure team can configure these entries securely for you.
